An Out Of the Box report containing Table Names and Table Description on the Source Step in the table in Studio.

Description of the Idea:

Our team has recently started using the “Table Description” field within the Source Step of a table to capture important documentation details. As part of this effort, we attempted to generate a report in CT that lists all table names along with their corresponding descriptions for reference and governance.

Current Challenge:

After opening ticket TS021641475, we discovered through discussions with Leslie and Isaac—that this capability is not available in R12. Leslie and Isaac were kind enough to configure a custom workaround for us based on R10/R11 logic, but this is not a sustainable long‑term solution. 

Proposed Enhancement:

Add an Out Of the Box Report containing Table Names and Table Description on the Source Step in the table in Studio in R12. Alternatively, add a native reporting capability in R12 that allows users to extract Table Names and their associated Table Description values. Ideally, this should be accessible through CT .

Value / Business Impact:

• Enhances documentation quality and traceability.
• Provides team with a centralized view of table metadata.
• Supports governance, audit readiness, and cleaner end‑to‑end documentation practices.

Additional Context:

Because the “Table Description” field is increasingly used to store important technical context, having a standard way to report on it would significantly improve usability and documentation consistency across projects.
