Show All Attributes for IDs Existing Only in the Comparison Plan During Plan Comparison

When comparing two plans in IT Planning, records that exist only in the comparison plan currently display the ID and financial values, while all related attribute fields (such as descriptions, Account, Cost Object, Comments, WBS Budget and other metadata) remain blank.

According to IBM Support, this behavior is working as designed because the comparison is anchored to the current plan and attribute values are sourced only from line items existing in that plan.

However, from a user perspective, this makes plan comparisons difficult to analyze. When a record exists only in the comparison plan, users still need to understand what that record represents and review all associated attributes in order to properly validate differences between plans.

Displaying only the ID without any descriptive or dimensional information forces users to perform additional manual investigations and significantly reduces the effectiveness of the comparison feature, especially when working with a large number of records.

We would like IT Planning to display all available attribute values for records that exist only in the comparison plan, sourcing those attributes directly from the comparison plan when no matching record exists in the current plan.

Expected behavior:

  • If an ID exists in both plans, attributes can continue to be displayed as they are today.
  • If an ID exists only in the comparison plan, all related attributes should be displayed using the values stored in the comparison plan.
  • Users should be able to fully understand and analyze differences without creating placeholder line items in the current plan.

This enhancement would make plan comparisons more intuitive, reduce manual effort, and provide complete visibility into records that have been added, removed, or moved between plans.
