Commitment Support for AWS Database Savings Plans

AWS has introduced Database Savings Plans, a commitment-based discount model that reduces eligible managed database costs by up to 35% with an hourly $/hour commitment over a 1-year term, automatically applying each hour to eligible database usage across supported services.

Cloudability already helps manage and report on commitments (RIs, Savings Plans). However, without explicit support for Database Savings Plans, FinOps teams will see gaps and inconsistencies in Cloudability’s savings and amortization reporting, service/team chargeback, and commitment coverage views for database-heavy estates.

Request: Extend Cloudability’s commitment recognition, allocation, and savings analytics to fully support AWS Database Savings Plans, including accurate attribution of savings to services and business dimensions, and clear coverage/utilization reporting.

Problem to solve:
- Many enterprises have significant database spend (Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.). 

With Database Savings Plans now available, customers will expect Cloudability to:
- Correctly identify Database Savings Plans related line items and discounts
- Attribute savings fairly to consuming applications/teams (showback and chargeback)
- Provide consistent commitment KPIs (coverage, utilization, savings realised) alongside existing commitments
