Enhanced Financial Transparency & Real-Time Reconciliation - Financial Integrity and Operational Efficiency - reconciliation automation

Roadmap Proposal: Enhanced Financial Transparency & Real-Time Reconciliation

Problem Statement

The current cloud cost reporting lacks a direct lineage between billing line items and actual inventory transactions. This creates a "black box" during month-end reconciliation, especially regarding complex adjustments like reservation swaps and credit applications.

Proposed Solution Themes

1. Transactional Lineage (The "Golden Thread")

We need to bridge the gap between Cloudability’s usage reports and the final invoice.

Feature: Map Invoice IDs directly to granular transaction metadata at the inventory level.

Benefit: Enables one-click audits. Instead of manually matching timestamps, users can filter by Invoice ID to see every resource that contributed to a specific charge.

2. Bi-Directional Credit Mapping

Credits and consumption often appear as disconnected entries, making it difficult to verify if a discount was applied correctly.

Feature: Link Credit Entries (discounts, EDPs, or usage credits) to their parent invoice/consumption line item.

Benefit: Provides a "Net Cost" view per resource, ensuring transparency in how credits offset gross spend.

3. Reservation Lifecycle Tracking (The Swap/Cancel Bridge)

Reserved Instance (RI) or Savings Plan swaps often create "phantom" costs or credits that are hard to track mid-month.

Feature: Implement a Reservation Status Ledger within the Cost Usage Report. This tracks the lifecycle of a reservation (Active → Cancelled → Swapped) and anchors the resulting credit to the original transaction.

Benefit: Eliminates "lost" credits during swaps and provides real-time visibility into the ROI of reservation adjustments.
