Support data export in FOCUS format

Use: Working with a FinOps partner who works primarily with Federal customers. They are evaluating FinOps solutions, and they envision the need to extract summary-level cloud costing information from disparate customer environments and bring them into a common reporting environment. They would like to use a common format, FOCUS, to provide a consistent method to transfer data between customer and the common reporting environment. They are keen to adopt FOCUS where available.

Benefit: Industry-standard format.

How is should work:

  • Create a report
  • Select that the report is for FOCUS export
  • Include only dimensions and metrics that are mapped to FOCUS
  • Generate the output

    We just received an MSP evaluation scorecard from Milliman (via Clear Technologies) asking for FOCUS export capabilities. It's not an imminent need, but they do expect this to be a capability they can leverage.

    While we support FOCUS aligned data for ingestion (both through our legacy FOCUS connector and through the new FOCUS Agent) we do not currently allow customers to visualize that data in reporting in FOCUS terminology. We are evaluating what it would look like to turn this on in the UI, which would in turn allow customers to export that data via csv or API.
