Expose AWS CUR lineItem.legalEntity Field

Request is to surface the AWS CUR field lineItem.legalEntity field within Cloudability as a standard, queryable dimension available for reporting, filtering, and allocation logic.

This field identifies the legal entity responsible for the transaction (e.g., Amazon Web Services, Inc., AWS Marketplace vendors, or third-party sellers). Today, this field is not exposed in Cloudability, limiting visibility into the true source of charges - particularly for AWS Marketplace activity.

AWS Marketplace transactions are often difficult to distinguish from native AWS service usage within Cloudability. Without access to lineItem.legalEntity, customers face:

  • Inability to reliably separate first-party AWS charges from third-party Marketplace spend

  • Limited visibility into vendor-specific costs for governance and vendor management

  • Challenges in allocating Marketplace spend to correct business units or dept codes

  • Reduced accuracy in FinOps reporting, especially when Marketplace usage is significant

  • Inability to determine legal entity responsible for commercial evaluation, economies of scale, etc.

Proposed Enhancement
Add lineItem.legalEntity as:

A standard dimension available in:

  • Cost datasets and reporting

  • Business mappings

  • Views and filters

Accessible via:

  • UI (Explore, Views, Reports, etc.)

  • API endpoints

Normalized or categorized (e.g., AWS vs Marketplace vs Third-Party Vendor)

Business Value

  • Improved Marketplace Visibility - Enables clear identification of AWS Marketplace transactions by distinguishing third-party vendor charges from AWS-native services.

  • Accurate Cost Allocation - Supports more precise mapping of Marketplace spend to applications, teams, or business units.

  • Vendor Governance & Optimization - Allows FinOps teams to track spend by Marketplace vendor, supporting contract negotiations, consolidation, and optimization strategies.

  • Enhanced Reporting & Compliance - Improves financial reporting accuracy, especially for organizations with procurement or compliance requirements around third-party software spend.

Impact
This enhancement would significantly improve Cloudability's ability to support Marketplace cost transparency, a growing area of cloud spend as organizations increasingly procure software through AWS.
