Breakdown view of how shared cost is computed

Customers using Shared Cost for internal cross-charging and engineering cost accountability are currently unable to reproduce or validate Shared Cost calculations outside the UI.

Although documentation and exported data were used to recreate the calculations, the resulting values do not match what is displayed in the platform UI. This creates challenges in explaining and justifying cost allocations to internal engineering teams.

The customer is requesting improved transparency and reproducibility of Shared Cost calculations through one or more of the following enhancements:

  • Ability to exactly replicate Shared Cost calculations externally
  • Detailed breakdown of Shared Cost allocation logic per namespace/workload
  • Export/API access to allocation inputs and intermediate calculation data
  • Access to hourly-level shared cost allocation data
  • Reproducible documentation with calculation examples matching platform outputs
  • Visibility into usage weights, shared pools, and allocation methodology

The goal is to enable customers to independently validate, audit, and defend Shared Cost allocations used for internal chargeback/showback processes.
