Commitment Recs are not compatible with tag based views

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Currently when trying to view commitment recommendations for Azure and also using business mapping based views results in a message saying that tag based views are not supported for commitment recommendations. See attached screenshot.

We would like to raise a feature request to add this functionality.

It is unlikely that the commitment portfolio and recommendations pages will support tag based views. The reason for not supporting portfolio is because we would be unable to calculate much of the metrics on the page. To articulate this issue, if say under tag A, the invoice claims a commitment credit of $100, and we wanted to calculate say Net Savings, what would be the cost basis (on-demand equivalent) that we'd base this calculation off? The commitment is not scoped to tag A. Because of this, it doesn't make sense to support tag based views on the portfolio page. Additionally, the current Azure UI is driven off of an Azure endpoint. This endpoint does not allow for a tag to be passed through at a parameter.

For Rec, while it does somewhat make sense to give a recommendation for a subset of spend scoped by a tag, we have largely refrained because we are weary of suggesting performance indicators that in reality would not materialize. Each vendor has their own logic for how a commitment is applied. Similar to the portfolio, driving a recommendation off a subset of data could mislead users. However, we did actually allow for this on GCP. Under commitment preferences, you can add a business dimension to the recs page. From the recs page, you can filter on that business metric. This IMO delivers on your pain point, albeit not through the specific solution you requested for here.

Until we have more granular data from Azure, we will continue to simply pass through recommendations rather than deriving them via our own algorithm. We have enhancements planned for Azure portfolio that will hopefully materialize in Q1 of 2026. Our focus is on AWS right now.

It does make sense for us to support account/vendor based views. We support these across the three vendors.
