Dynamic memory consumption

In addition to static memory metrics (free, used, swap size, or percentage), there should be dynamic memory usage sensors (metrics such as memory pages/sec, memory paged/unpaged bytes, etc.). These kind of metrics can be used to predict the problem.

    Hello Martin!

Sorry for the late answer. We are in the project of substitution of ITM to Instana at a client.

The idea is not mine. It came from the IBM ITM “Predefined situations: bottleneck analysis paragraph” on page 190 in IBM Tivoli Monitoring Version 6.3 Fix Pack 2, Windows OS Agent Reference

NT_Memory_Pages_Sec Monitors for indications of high memory demand.

    e.g.: NT_Memory.Pages/sec GT 100

    Definition:

Pages/sec The average number of pages per second the memory manager reads from or writes to a disk.

Valid values are positive integers in the range 0 to 2147483647 and can include the use of the *MIN,

*MAX, or *SUM functions. (Superseded.) Note: the value 2147483647 indicates Value_Exceeds_Maximum

and the value -2147483648 indicates Value_Exceeds_Minimum.

It is not related any specific application. This ITM situation is “distributed” to all Windows NT Systems in the client network.

“These kinds of metrics can be used to predict the problem.” – just high memory demand.

    Kind regards,

    Andras

    Hello Andras,

Thanks for bringing this idea to our attention!

Is your request related to a specific technology? Which type of problems are you able to predict by using these metrics?

    Best regards,
