Prod: change in autotrace webhook version needs application to clean and redeploy(prod blocked)

The autotrace mutating webhook is only called when there is a redeployment.
We would need to rewrite this into an operator to gain more control and actually observe the state to trigger a redeployment.


This is a production blocker as every-time we upgrade autotrace webhook we need clean/redeploy our applications to pick up latest libs.

    Hi Sumit,

    Thanks for your idea! I understand that updating the AutoTrace Webhook with new libraries and tracing capabilities does not actually change instrumentation, since a re-deployment is required.

    I have some concerns for an automated re-deployment of all instrumented pods though: In large clusters with hundreds of applications, this might cause sudden drop of services when everything re-deploys at once.

    Is this the case for you, too? How would your service landscape behave in such a case? Would an opt-in per deployment for automated re-deploy be an option?
