Java method tracing pre-defined options

Instana is unable to determine the time/performance at the Java “method” level. Instana requires either of the two of traces to be enabled to capture the method level performance,

1. Configuration based SDK trace: No changes on the application code. But can selectively look at the methods individually configured.

Problem: No option to include all methods, as it is a resource intensive activity.

2. Java SDK trace: Requires application code change. Spans can be configured as per developers input for monitoring.

Problem: No client or app developer will change their code for performance data gathering. It’s impractical to ask them.

Idea / Request for Enhancement: Provide out-of-the-box SDK based traces may be in bundles of 5, 10, 15 and ALL. This will enable looking inside methods for performance data in Java based monolithic applications.
