Export Config Data to CSV/XML Format As Well

Today, Instana API calls like ../api/events/settings/event-specifications/custom return data in JSON format only.

Going forward potential enhancement options:

1) The U/I provides a way to export this sort of config data and allows it to be exported by JSON, CSV, or XML.

2) All the APIs get updated to pass in an optional flag as to what sort of format we would like the data returned (JSON, CSV, or XML). The default returned is what is currently being done today to not break anything existing for customers.

3) Both #1 and #2.

4) IBM has an Instana tool that converts the JSON data to CSV (or XML) format depending on the API called.

The problem with the APIs returning the data in JSON format is the data is not organized in a table structure (think Excel) to easily filter for specific values/patterns in a given column and then only return those records associated with that value. Converting JSON to a column structure (like in Excel) is potentially doable, but puts the burden of this conversion process on every customer (us). In addition, IBM may change this data structure or add fields to the JSON over time that may break anything (or at the very least make obsolete) that all the customers previously assembled.

This is to allow review of this sort of config data for audit purposes for those that will not have access to the U/I.

While I'm mainly interested in export via CSV, others may also be interested in XML as well, hence also suggesting that be potentially added.

Mate - 'quite simply' needs to be clarified on your end as is a matter of opinion that I don't agree with. How long is it taking you and what exact steps are you doing to translate this example API data so ALL data names are split into individual columns?

Data is stored and used in JSON format and can be processed and formatted by the consumer of the API quite simply.

Specificly Custom Events are not being further improved.
