Hello,
Recently we have been trying to add our AWS Lambdas to our instana monitoring. We successfully added the node package where it was needed and got good results on lambda call via Messaging (like SQS) or Api Gateways.
But we have a problem where the traces interrupts in the case where we call the Lambda via the java AWS SDK function "invoke" (like in this exemple https://docs.aws.amazon.com/sdk-for-java/latest/developer-guide/examples-lambda.html#invoke-function)
When we do that, I guess the trace ID and parent span ID are not passed to the lambda so there is no correlation possible.
I have included a screenshot of said timeline. We see only a call to lambda.eu-west-3.amazonaws.com and no child under that (there should be some http calls from that lambda).
I believe that this feature is not yet available but that it would be great. AWS Xray actually does this by instrumenting the SDK as you can see in this StackOverflow thread https://stackoverflow.com/questions/66613871/how-to-trace-a-lambda-invokes-a-lambda-with-aws-x-ray
Is this already in your backlog ? If yes, when is it due ? If no, do you think it could be added ?
Do not hesitate to ask for more details.
Regards,
William
