I don't view this as being delivered for a couple of reasons.
First, my expectation would be that there is a SINGLE install to execute. Today, I have to run 2 separate "automatic 1-liners". And, it isn't supported if I want to do a TAR or RPM install. There are quite a few customers that don't use the automatic 1-liner because they are air-gapped.
What I would expect to see is that whenever I install the Agent, the collector is automatically installed (or there is an optional flag to install it). Personally, I would recommend installing it, but have a flag to optionally set it up to auto-start.
Second, we don't have support for Windows or AIX yet.
What about kubernetes environments? We support it, but it doesn't get installed with the Agent.
Hi Ben,
IDOT collector deployments are now available for supported platforms in the Instana UI. IDOT distribution is fully supported by us.

For other topics/suggestions in your last comment, please create new separate ideas for each.
Kind regards,

There are two key elements. First, we can't expect customers to be going to an external site and downloading a binary and then setting it up on a server. We need a user experience that is seemless in a manner that is siimlar to our sensors. It must fit in with our single agent architecture. Customer does 1 install and everything works.
The 2nd key element is support. Today, we expect customers to download open source code and then support it themselves. Most of our customers expect a supported solution.
There are other things that would be nice to have, but those first two are critical. For example:
Provide a way to centrally configure the configuration settings for the log parsing.
Provide out of the box yaml files for common logs such as DB2, MQ error logs and FDC files, WebSphere logs, kubernetes pod logs, etc.
HI Ben,
Can you please list the use case in detail?
Are you just looking for the agent to deploy the collector(as standalone deployment) upon triggering the agent installation script? Or do you have a more advanced use case?
Kind regards,
Paras Kampasi
