This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Management, Technology Cost Management, Network Automation and AIOps products. We request a Plugin that would basically check the status of a specified local port or a reacheable port from where the agent is residing.
USE CASE #1 ( Local Port )
This would be usefull to validate the status of an application port . Sometimes an application can be up , but its port is not live at all .
USE CASE #2 ( Reacheable / distant Port from the local host )
This is very important when you want to confirm if from a local host the distant port from a server is reacheable ( FQDN Based and IP Based )
How Instana agent could handle this ?
I would suggest that a pluggin be created and have a config file that would that this into considration Those elements are also based on the Monitoring File
Name : Name of the monitor - This could have application name or anything usefull and unique and permit multiple probes
Interval : Interval variable as descrived in the event_interval Section
event_interval : Variabled to set different interval when to check for the port availability
type : Internal / External - Internal for Local Port / External for distant port
Port : Port number to check the status
destination : Only in the case we are specifying an External as a type . FQDN or IP
Condition :
Severity : <Warning or Critical> This is more as a nice to have as by default a port that is down/unreacheable is not a good behavior
How Instana UI could handle this ?
I would suggest the same look and feel as Monitoring File

@Guest I would say this is more of a feature for SevOne than for Instana. In addition, nobody else is asking for this feature.
If you think this is very important please try to escalate via Scout program.
