Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Monitoring AIX Metrics on Instana

Title: Monitoring AIX Metrics on Instana

Details:

IsBank would like to monitor and be able to create events on AIX hosts regards to the metrics below:

- CPU run queue

- NFS filesystem usage

- Raw disk (not filesystem) utilization, for hdisks, read/write

- Raw disk latency,

- Raw disk VSCSI utilization,

- Raw disk FCS utilization (if it is dedicated)

- From PowerHA perspective, resource group state and service state

Out of those Instana's AIX dashboard already provides:

    - CPU run queue

    - NFS filesystem usage

    • Raw disk (not filesystem) utilization, for hdisks, read/write

    - Active disk percentage

    - Transmitted kilobytes per second

    - From PowerHA perspective, resource group state and service state

Remaining metrics for adapter usage are not directly collectable from client side, they can be done from VIOS side-

    - Raw disk VSCSI utilization,

    • Raw disk FCS utilization (if it is dedicated)

These metrics already supported in VIOs metrics in pHMC

    For disk latency:

    • From the AIX perspective, we are already providing vSCSI-related performance metrics under disk metrics (as shown in the screenshot where the Type is vSCSI).

    • If the requirement is to capture disk latency from the AIX client side, we can extend the existing disk metrics table to include this.

    • If the requirement is specifically at the adapter level, then it would need to be implemented from the VIOS side.

Since this AHA was raised for AIX, it seems the expectation is to have visibility from the AIX side. Can you please confirm?

Please see the attached file for Instana screenshots showing the available metrics.
