Treat Call and Trace metrics like any other time-series metrics

Regarding Application & Trace Data Retention policy, we claim that “Accurate metrics of applications, services, and endpoints are kept for 31 days.”

After looking into this in detail, I have made the following observations:

Call metrics with 1, 5 and 10 second granularity are only accurate for data that is no older than 7 days (see this, this and this)

All Call metrics are accurate for granularity >= 60 seconds for data that is no older than 31 days.

All Call metrics older than 31 days are calculated from the 1% and thus not really accurate irrespective of granularity

Why don’t we treat Application metrics like Infra metrics? Both are time-series metrics which could/should be stored and made available for analytics. Current approach of estimating call metrics based on the 1% after 31 days is simply wrong.

Promoting the Idea to be investigated more closely within the team. It's a valid request and will make the product better.
