Memory Leak Reboot Task - Schedule Control

Hi Folks,

I was told in response to a support case that I should raise this issue as a possible improvement.

This would be to allow control of the scheduling of the Memory Leak Reboot Task as there appears to be no way to control when this task is carried out other than the default it determines for itself, the default lands it during a time when our servers could be patched and rebooted, which has caused agent corruption in the past.

Kind regards,

Paul

    Hi Paul,

    thanks for posting this idea.

The automated Memory Leak Reboot is a last-resort counter measure for the Agent, until it becomes unresponsive. We introduced it in a time when we needed to investigate a native memory leak within the agent. This investigation is done and the memory leak resolved. The final fix rolled out with Agent 1.2.32, which got released July 9th 2025.

If you still encounter frequent reboots of the Agent due to this issue, please open a new case with Instana support and let us fix the situation. Agent should not reboot randomly in normal operations.

I hope this helps, best regards
