Native HA for the Self Hosted Instana Backend

In a self-hosted Instana backend setup, there is no native support for redundancy or high availability (HA), resulting in a single point of failure. This poses a risk to monitoring continuity in the event of a node or service outage. We kindly request you to provide a high availability (HA) architecture design to ensure resilience and uninterrupted availability of the Instana backend services.

    Thanks for the idea.

    • For Self‑Hosted Standard Edition (SHSE) we already include Horizontal Pod Autoscaling (HPA), which automatically adds replicas for the backend components (except the datastores) to give a more resilient deployment.

    • A resilient deployment mode for the Standard Edition, covering the datastores and ensuring continuity if a node fails, is in our roadmap. Development is slated to start around Q4, after we finish the current set of improvements needed to enable this capability.
