Inclusion of option to disable Auto-Closure of Agent Alerts in Instana

Sharing the customer request below:

"I wanted to raise a concern regarding the current alert auto-closure mechanism in Instana, specifically for cases where agents go offline or stop reporting. While I appreciate the workaround suggested—setting both the auto-close time and grace period to 24 hours to extend alert visibility to 48 hours—it still falls short of our operational needs.

In scenarios where agents are not reporting, these alerts are auto-closed after the configured duration, even if the issue persists. This makes it extremely difficult to track and monitor such incidents, especially over weekends or during off-hours. The current setup risks missing critical alerts that may not be reviewed in time, leading to potential gaps in system reliability.

We strongly believe that alerts related to agent non-reporting should not be auto-closed unless the agent has resumed reporting. Ideally, such tickets should remain open until the issue is actively resolved. This would significantly improve our ability to monitor and respond to genuine outages.

We would appreciate it if the Instana team could consider this feedback and explore options to enhance alert handling for agent-related incidents."

Specially agent outages during weekends, are passing by unverified, for we do not have 24x7x365 shifts, and even sending this as payload for servicenow, when instana closes the issue, it also closes on ServiceNow, causing confusion on the team that needs to keep digging for problems in a vast universe of services. This enhancement is a must for us all at CIO. Thank you for posting this, Clecio.
