Zero-code discovery and instrumentation support for C++ applications in Instana

Description

  • Currently, Instana does not support automatic discovery and instrumentation of applications written in C++
  • The agent is unable to detect and provide code-level tracing or service-level visibility for C++ processes.
  • For organizations running critical services in C++ , this creates a visibility gap - This Finacle is super critical for us as it holds all the financial transactions for the Banking.

Request

Introduce zero-code discovery and instrumentation capabilities for applications written in C++, similar to what Instana already provides for Java, .NET, and other managed runtimes. This should include:

  • Automatic discovery of C++ processes and services.
  • Auto-instrumentation for popular C++ frameworks, libraries, and RPC/HTTP calls.
  • Seamless correlation when C++ interacts with Java or other supported runtimes.

Business Impact

  • Many enterprises rely on high-performance C++ services for core business functions Finacle (financial transactions).
  • Lack of native C++ instrumentation limits Instana adoption in these environments.
  • Providing zero-code support would extend Instana’s coverage and align with its positioning as a full-stack, zero-code observability platform.

    We have reviewed this requirement and determined that some R&D is needed before we can commit it to a specific quarter. To proceed with the R&D, could you please confirm whether this is targeted for a specific architecture such as amd64, arm64, or AIX?
