Support HTTP Parameter Filtering in Adaptive Threshold for Smart Alerts

Currently, Instana Smart Alerts allow HTTP parameter filtering only in static threshold mode. However, dynamic thresholds — which offer adaptive baselining and anomaly detection — do not support filtering by HTTP parameters

Proposal:
Extend adaptive threshold Smart Alerts to support HTTP parameter filtering — similar to static thresholds. This would allow:

  • Adaptive alerts scoped to specific query parameters

  • Reduced noise by focusing on meaningful traffic slices

Impact:
Improves precision of alerts, reduces false positives

    Hi,
Thanks for the details. I've check this with the team. Currently the limitation is in place as our adaptive baseline initialization needs a significant amount of data, which can be queried for tags that have materialized views. These are limited to the most common tags currently.

Right now a daily seasonal or weekly seasonal threshold can be used in this case.

I have linked the idea to a future task for the team, as we are planning to implement a more gradual initialization of adaptive baselines, which would allow to use all filters and tags, by starting with a simpler model and refining over time instead of a stronger initialization like today.
This is currently planned for our roadmap early next year, but no planned release date yet.

Hello, we have similar use cases with endpoints that contain multiple HTTP Paths. We need to use adaptive THs with HTTP filters to be able to analyze only a set of Requests.

    Thanks

    Hi Praveen,
Can you please clarify if this is for Application or Website Smart Alerts and also provide some example HTTP parameter filters that are unavailable in adaptive threshold mode?

    Thanks a lot!
