Want RPM based Agent installs to setup a service account and configure Instana to run with the service account

The customer has a need to run the Agent as a non-root user.  In this case, the user can have elevated privileges, but can't be root.   The customer would like the RPM install process to have an option to create the user account and then configure the agent to run as that user.    The account should be a service account that does not have the ability to login to the system.

There should be an environment variable that allows the customer to choose the username/group name of the service account.

Need to add a couple of comments here.    There are really 3 parts to this requirement.

    • First, they need the option to install into a different directory.  For example, /apps/instana.
    • Second, there should be an option to specify a username that the Agent should be installed and run as.
    • Third, the RPM install should create the user account that was specified and then setup the agent accordingly.
