Enable Native Trace / Call Payload Visualization and Aggregation in Instana Dashboards

Problem Statement

Customers using Instana for application performance monitoring cannot natively visualize or aggregate trace/call‑level payload data (custom tags, request/response attributes, business fields) in dashboards.

While payload data can be captured at the trace/call level via SDKs and agents, there is no supported way to:

  • Aggregate payload fields across traces
  • Visualize business attributes derived from traces
  • Build dashboards directly on trace payload data

As a result, customers are forced to extract trace data externally using Instana APIs and route it through additional systems for visualization.
