Add Identifier/Flag for Events Suppressed During Maintenance Windows to Support Downstream Integrations

When an Instana environment is in a maintenance window, events are intentionally suppressed and not forwarded to downstream systems such as ServiceNow (SNOW). However, Instana currently provides no mechanism to identify or retrieve which events were suppressed during that period. Adding an identifier or flag for these suppressed events would enable better auditing, tracking, and troubleshooting of integrations.

Problem Statement
Instana automatically suppresses alerts during a maintenance window, which prevents unnecessary incidents from being created in systems like ServiceNow.
However:
There is no record of which events were suppressed.
There is no API, UI view, or metadata that indicates events originated during a maintenance window.

  • This makes it impossible to audit, verify integration behavior, or analyze what would have triggered had the environment not been in maintenance.

This lack of visibility is a challenge for teams that depend on SNOW for compliance, change management, RCA, or reporting.

Proposed Feature / Enhancement
Introduce a capability within Instana to tag, flag, or log events detected during maintenance windows, even if they are not forwarded.
Possible implementation options (any of the following would solve the problem):
1. Event Metadata Flag
Add a Boolean like suppressedByMaintenanceWindow=true to events detected in a maintenance period.
2. Maintenance Window Event Log / Audit View
A UI or API endpoint showing the list/count of events detected but suppressed.
3. Exportable Report (API or UI)
Ability to query “events suppressed during maintenance window X”.
4. Webhook/Integration Marker
• If sending to SNOW is disabled, provide the ability to send a non-incident technical notification with a marker stating:
"event suppressed due to maintenance window".
