Display all WebSphere Datasource Names and allow for multiple metrics for Websphere Servers

Widget with multiple metrics for WebSphere requires a “Datasource Name” dimension.

What we want to achieve is the following view: Display all defined WebSphere Datasource Names and for all available WebSphere Server (or based on a filter) for multiple Metrics. See screenshots as example (desired versus what is possible now.

With the current possibilities we have in Instana, we can for example create atable widget with one metric. It is grouped by metric id and by Websphere server name. Metric id is filtered by RegEx (datasources\..*\.freePoolSize).

Using the current features in Instana, we can, for example, create a table widget with a single metric. It is grouped by “metric ID” and by “WebSphere Server Name”. The “metric ID” is filtered using a regular expression (datasources\..*\.freePoolSize) (see screenshot)

The column “metricId” is not useful here because it is already covered by the e.g. “FreePoolSize” column,. Instead of “metricId”,we would need “ Datasource Name”. However, this is not available.), so when we add another metric it looks like the screenshot attached.

Hence it is not what the client wants to create. According to feedback from IBM Support (case TS021656472), it is currently not possible to implement the view requested by the customer. This is primarily because the “Datasource Name” is not a dimension. It appears to be merely part of the metric ID string, and the metric ID is different for each WebSphere server. Therefore, it makes no sense to use it as the primary group alongside the WebSphere server name as the secondary group. It would be necessary to use the "Datasource Name" exclusively for the primary grouping. Then we could meet the customers’ requirements. As things stand, however, the ‘Datasource Name’ itself is not available in Instana.

Please see JSON file: “WidgetDSNameAHA.json” with a dashboard definition with two table widgets as it can be created now for One and Two metric.

Thank for considering this and let us know if you have any questions or feedback about this!
