Secrets redaction in Instana on Kubernetes

As mentioned in the following documentation :

https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/instana-observability?topic=kubernetes-administering-agent#ariaid-title21, secret redaction on kubernetes resource is only supported for annotations and container environment variables.

We are asking to extend the redaction to beyond just annotation and container env variables for Kubernetes Manifests / Resource Definitions.

    Assessment: Target Q3

    The work will be divided in 3 phases to help prioritize what customer needs and still allows us to build a market-aligned/competitive solution.

    • Phase 0 - Complete the foundation work needed to ensure there is right architecture to support redaction (nothing visible to customer)

      • per-event redaction (sanitize a k8s object as soon as it’s seen/created) and offers better coverage and higher security posture than per-cycle redaction (that focusses on batch processing)

      • 7 dev days


    • Phase -1

      • Built-in detector pack (default-on): Basic auth, Bearer tokens, JWTs, AWS keys, PEM keys, base64 Docker config — anywhere in spec.

      • Customer's existing keyword list, now applied to both keys and values at every walked position.

      • Complete the ask from customer - extend the redaction to manifest

      • 21 dev days


    • Phase - 2

        • better encryption and default-on smart detectors with options to customize.

        • 45 dev days
