Suggestion for Smart Alert

Here are some suggestions to improve the usability of Smart Alert

  • Move Smart Alert into Setting -> "Events & alerts". This allows administrator to manage all alert setting in the same place. Currently, smart alert located in different areas which is difficult to locate

  • Smart Alert Naming: It'd be great if we can define a meaningful name for Smart Alert like Event.

  • Alert Channel: this is required to select alert channel within Smart Alert. It'd be great if we can add smart alert into alert like Events and with alert channel selected in alert setting. We can use alert to define the scope that apply for all smart alerts

  • There is no way for me to click "migrate to smart alert" for multi-metric conditions in filesystem event to smart alert. Need to create one from scratch

The most important thing for this idea is to create a single place to manage all Smart alerts within Instana UI.

    • All smart alert configs are included under Events / Smart Alert configurations tab for this reason. The settings area will have less and less alerting related options as we consolidate the UI

    • You can freely choose the name of all Smart Alerts in the Alert properties / Title box. Most Smart alerts offer a variety of placeholders to use to help define a unique title when using grouping in the configuration

    • It is NOT required, but possible to select an Alert channel directly in Smart Alerts for convenience. Alert routing rules are still possible to define for Smart Alerts

    • Multi-metric support for Infra Smart Alerts is being added and migration will become possible afterwards. The button is not supposed to appear in this case, which I will review with the engineering team
