Granular Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for Instana Dashboards.

Abbott requires tighter security controls over custom dashboards in Instana. The current model grants full permissions (view, edit, delete) to all members once a dashboard is shared with a team. There is no way to restrict access to read-only or limit visibility to specific roles.

Current Limitations:

  • No Read-Only Mode: Sharing a private dashboard with a team automatically gives all members full editing and deletion rights.
  • All-or-Nothing Public Model: Public dashboards are visible to everyone globally with no option to hide them from specific groups.
  • No Role Segmentation: Users see all dashboards within their scope, preventing role-based dashboard segmentation.

Requested Capabilities:

  • Dashboard-Level Roles: Implement explicit Viewer, Editor, and Owner roles per dashboard.
  • Read-Only Team Sharing: Allow dashboards to be shared with teams as "View Only."
  • Per-Dashboard Access Control: Provide options to hide specific dashboards completely from unauthorized users or teams.
  • Configurable Team Levels: Move away from global permissions to configurable access levels per asset
