smart alert ui view timeseries graph does not show triggered events but edit mode graph shows

We do run application monitoring for huge amount of applications and services. When looking at smart alert 24h/7d timeseries graph view, you don't see symbol for triggered events but in the edit mode (potential) triggered events shown.

Information from support is that it is confirmed that this behavior is expected and as designed. They have chosen to NOT show Alert Icons in Smart Alert Details Page whereas those icons are present in the Preview when you create/edit the alert.

Alert preview would be misleading there, we can in theory show actual alerts, but there is an issue with that, because threshold might change. E.g. you create alert with threshold 100, and alert is triggered, so we show a triangle, later you change the threshold to 1000 so the metric does not violate it. If we still show that triangle, it would be misleading because metric is not violating the new threshold

RfC : Show alert icons in smart alert details page with versioning information

  • If instana smart alerts use versioning feature in place it might be an idea to show date/time of versioning !?

  • Or smater: Show seperate metrics time intervals in 24 h range.
