Allow Saving Filters and Analytics When Using Scoped or Contextual Views

Problem Statement

Users are currently unable to save certain filters and analytics configurations when working within scoped or contextual views. During investigation, support indicated that the current behavior is not supported and recommended submitting an enhancement request

This creates friction for users who frequently work within predefined scopes, teams, environments, or focused operational views and need to revisit the same analysis repeatedly

Business Impact

Operations and observability teams commonly build filters and analytics views to support recurring tasks such as:

  • Environment-specific monitoring
  • Team-specific investigations
  • Service ownership reviews
  • Incident response workflows
  • Capacity and trend analysis

When those filters cannot be saved, users must repeatedly recreate the same configurations each time they return to the platform.

This results in:

  • Additional operational overhead
  • Slower investigations
  • Inconsistent filtering practices among users
  • Reduced efficiency during troubleshooting
  • Increased onboarding effort for new team members

Current Behavior

Users can build useful scoped queries and analytics views, but in certain contexts those filters cannot be persisted for later reuse. As a result, users lose the ability to standardize commonly used views across teams.

Proposed Enhancement

Allow users to save filters and analytics configurations regardless of whether they are working in:

  • Infrastructure scopes
  • Dynamic focus scopes
  • Team-specific contexts
  • Analytics views
  • Other supported Instana scoped experiences

Saved items should preserve:

  • Selected filters
  • Scope definitions
  • Query criteria
  • Sorting preferences
  • View settings where applicable

Desired User Experience

A user creates a scoped analytics view, such as:

  • Production applications owned by Team A
  • Infrastructure resources matching specific tags
  • Services within a defined business unit

The user selects Save View or Save Filter and can later reopen the exact same configuration without rebuilding it manually.
