The feature is already in public beta and publicly documented here https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/instana-observability/current?topic=premises-installing-instana-backend-docker#beeinstana-metric-pipeline-beta
The remaining work that Edwin mentioned is mainly around our Kubernetes based offering. If your client uses the docker-based offering, I suggest you have a look at the docs.
