This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Management, Technology Cost Management, Network Automation and AIOps products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

The documentation shows a way to disable distributed instrumentation tracing for Java apps through host agent configuration:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/instana-observability/current?topic=machine-java-configuration#disabling-automatic-instrumentation
com.instana.plugin.javatrace:
instrumentation:
enabled: false
However, that impacts all apps running on the host.
Provide a way for an app to disable Java tracing by setting an environment variable or system property on a Java process.
We want to avoid modifying the host agent configuration. We want the application themselves to determine the disablement of Java tracing.
Also note that this is different from ignoring monitoring by process:
We want to continue monitoring the processes but possibly disable distributed instrumentation tracing.

This feature has been delivered, now the users can disable Java tracing per process/app. Please find the documentation here https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/instana-observability/current?topic=machine-java-configuration#disabling-trace-instrumentation-for-a-java-process
