Option to truncate context field in Netcool SCOM probe

When the context attribute of the alarm object SCOM sends to the SCOM probe is very large, the SCOM probe crashes. The problem can be solved when the probe truncates the context field (and all related context_xxx fields) to a certain number of bytes. This does not affect the general processing of the event. With an environment variable one should be able to set the truncation limit, so that the customer can adjust the field size to his needs. E.g. if NCO_TRUNCATION_LIMIT is set to 8192, only the first 8192 bytes of the context(_xxx) fields will be processed and forwarded to Netcool/OMNIbus.

    Hi Adriana,

Thanks for your comment. In my opinion, the solution should be available in the main release of the probe and not only to customers who have raised a support case. By the time they open a support case, they have already encountered a problem and this is not good for customer satisfaction. Also, it's annoying to always have to install the fix with a new release.

    Best regards,
    Michael

Hello Michael, thank you again for your idea to truncate context field in Netcool SCOM probe. This idea is now a candidate for inclusion in a future release. However, we anticipate it will only be available to clients through raising a support case. Please let us know if you have any questions. Thank you
