Overview: When creating a report in DI (Data Insight), selecting a device group in the variables option results in displaying data for all devices and objects under that group. For example, if a site is selected as the device group and it contains two devices, the widgets will showcase all the interfaces present on both devices. If a user attempts to restrict the output by configuring object groups within the widget settings, these settings are often overwritten once a variable option is selected.
Problem: Currently, when a device group is chosen through the variable selection, all the devices under that group are displayed in the widgets, regardless of any previous restrictions applied via object groups. This can lead to an overwhelming amount of data being displayed, and the user may lose focus on the relevant interfaces. It can also lead to a less streamlined user experience as the flexibility provided by the variable option conflicts with the more targeted focus that object group filters offer.
Proposed Solution: Enable an option to preserve object group restrictions in widgets, even when a variable option for the device group is selected. By implementing this feature, users can still enjoy the flexibility of selecting device groups via the variable dropdown but can also limit the displayed data to specific interfaces using object groups. Or provide an alternate filtering option where we can apply multiple filters wo restrict the output e.g. using regx values to filter on interface description or object name etc.
