Version Control Gap Analysis: DI Maps Migration

Executive Summary

Our organization is transitioning from Observium weathermaps to DI Maps+Reports to modernize network visualization and replace manual Visio topology maps. However, a critical compliance gap has been identified: Maps lack version control, which is required for ISO 27001 certification.

Current Situation

What's Working

  • DI Reports have built-in version control with comment functionality on each save

  • Existing Visio workflow includes:

    • Date and version tags on images

    • Wiki-based change log table documenting all modifications

The Problem

  • DI Maps (where most changes occur) have no version control or change log

  • Maps are the primary editing layer, but Reports (which have version control) are secondary

  • ISO 27001 compliance risk: Current DI Maps implementation doesn't meet audit requirements

Compliance Requirements Elements:

  1. Version numbering system

  2. Timestamp for each change

  3. Description of modifications

  4. Audit trail for compliance reviews
