Cloud and AIOps

This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Management, Technology Cost Management, Network Automation and AIOps products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

SevOne API Monitoring and Observability Enhancement Request

Request: Add API monitoring and observability capabilities that provide visibility into API usage, performance, resource consumption, and client activity.

Historical API usage trends would be most important.

Suggested Metrics and Monitoring Capabilities:

  • API endpoints being accessed
  • Request frequency by endpoint (requests per minute/hour/day)
  • API response time metrics (average, P95, P99 latency)
  • Error rates by endpoint (4xx, 5xx, authentication errors, timeouts)
  • Top API consumers (user, API token, source IP, application/integration)
  • Concurrent API sessions and active requests
  • CPU and memory utilization associated with API activity
  • Request burst/spike detection and alerting
  • Request and response payload size statistics
  • API version usage tracking
  • API audit trail showing who accessed which endpoints and when

Example Use Cases:

  • Identify which API endpoints are most heavily utilized.
  • Determine whether API traffic is contributing to increased CPU or memory consumption.
  • Detect failing or misconfigured integrations through elevated error rates.
  • Identify API clients generating excessive traffic or approaching rate limits.
  • Troubleshoot API performance issues using latency and concurrency metrics.
  • Track API adoption and usage trends over time.
