Disable cloud-init on NMS OVA images.

The last certified SevOne NMS OVA version was 6.8.0. Since cloud-init was introduced, we have been unable to certify newer versions, including 7.0.1, 7.2.0, and 8.1.0.

The cloud-init implementation prevented reliable VM network configuration during OVA deployment and redeployment. It took approximately six months to identify and confirm the root cause.

It has now been approximately one year since we first requested a resolution. Despite repeated discussions and follow-ups, we still do not have a workaround, supported configuration, delivery commitment, or resolution.

Our current production environment is running NMS 8.1.6. Because we do not have a certified OVA version close to the current production version, reaching the required version requires three sequential upgrades, adding approximately two hours to each deployment or redeployment activity.

We request that IBM prioritize this issue and evaluate the following options, in this order:

  1. Disable cloud-init in the SevOne NMS OVA.
  2. Provide a supported configuration option that allows customers to disable cloud-init when required.
  3. Adapt the OVA deployment process to support the way customers deploy and configure SevOne NMS VMs, including reliable network configuration during deployment and redeployment.

Without one of these options, we cannot efficiently certify or deploy newer SevOne NMS OVA versions, resulting in unnecessary deployment time, operational risk, and upgrade complexity.
