This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Management, Technology Cost Management, Network Automation and AIOps products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Add support for configuring the Oracle RAC discovery command cemutlo to execute using sudo through collation.properties, similar to the existing configuration options for srvctl and crsstat.

During Oracle RAC discovery, TADDM executes:

$GRID_HOME/bin/cemutlo -n

In secured Oracle RAC environments, this command requires elevated privileges to access Oracle diagnostic directories (for example /u01/app/grid/diag). When executed without elevated privileges, the command fails with permission errors.

Executing the command with sudo resolves the issue:

sudo $GRID_HOME/bin/cemutlo -n

However, TADDM currently does not provide a configurable property to enable sudo execution for this command.

Existing Functionality

TADDM already provides configurable sudo execution for other Oracle RAC discovery commands via collation.properties:

com.collation.oracle.sensor.sudo.srvctl=true
com.collation.oracle.sensor.sudo.crsstat=true

This functionality allows secure execution of commands through restricted sudo rules.

Limitation

The cemutlo command does not currently have an equivalent configurable property. The Oracle sensor executes the command directly without referencing a configurable sudo option.

As a result, discovery fails unless:

  • filesystem permissions are loosened (not recommended), or
  • the command can be executed through sudo.

Proposed Enhancement

Add a configurable property such as:

com.collation.oracle.sensor.sudo.cemutlo=true

or host-specific equivalent:

com.collation.oracle.sensor.sudo.cemutlo.<ip>=true

When enabled, the Oracle sensor should execute:

sudo $GRID_HOME/bin/cemutlo -n

    This logic is clearly a bug and should rectified by IBM.
