Enable User Impersonation Feature in TargetProcess

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Current Limitation:
TargetProcess does not currently offer a way for administrators to impersonate or assume the view of another user. This limits the ability to effectively troubleshoot user-specific issues or validate permission-based configurations from the end-user perspective.

Problem Statement:
Without impersonation capabilities, administrators must rely on second-hand descriptions of issues or request screenshots and walkthroughs from users. This slows down the support cycle, increases back-and-forth communication, and can lead to misdiagnosis of problems—especially those related to roles, permissions, or UI behavior.

Proposed Enhancement:
Introduce an “Impersonate User” feature that allows authorized administrators to temporarily view and interact with the system exactly as a selected user would. This should include:

  • Full visibility into the impersonated user’s permissions, views, and access restrictions.
  • Clear indicators that the session is in impersonation mode.
  • Audit logging to ensure transparency and accountability.

Benefits:

  • Faster Troubleshooting: Admins can directly reproduce and resolve user-reported issues without delays.
  • Improved Accuracy: Reduces guesswork and ensures that fixes are based on the actual user experience.
  • Operational Efficiency: Streamlines support workflows and reduces the time to resolution.
  • Security-Conscious Design: With proper controls and audit trails, this feature can be implemented without compromising user privacy or data integrity.
