In our practice we have the need to Add (discover) new devices in an adhoc manner.  Additionally, we also need to remove devices that are in the process of upgrades or RMA actions.  Once devices are in ITNM we also have a need to manage meta data in an adhoc manner.  Managing things like life cycle status, owner, categorization data and functional information in a real-time fashion is important.  In today's world doing these types of functions via REST API is commonplace in most NMS.  Using this in conjunction with a database finder will allow for more immediate updates to ITNM inventory.
