Hide about this portal

This is an IBM Automation portal for Cloud Management, Technology Cost Management, Network Automation and AIOps products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Auto-detect and exclude Hosts dedicated for maintenance/operational vacancy

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

  • Telefónica intentionally has some empty hosts, without load, exclusively to move load there during update/maintenance/obsolescence tasks. It is not a fixed rule, but it is usually one free host for every 8 or 9 hosts.
  • This Telefónica's policy is applied both to worker nodes in a kubernetes clusters, and to Host/ESX in a vCenter.
  • These empty hosts are only identified in vCenter or kubernetes by labels -metadata- (it is not possible to identify them by hostname, for example).
  • Turbo detects all of these servers as "active", generating "false possitive" recommendations, and the client requests the possibility to exclude them based on the tag value.

Can we please close this as it seems the product already has features along these lines?

Turbonomic currently allows users to manually exclude nodes from action generation and automation. This is accomplished by creating a group of nodes to exclude and applying policies to disable them, or by adding action constraints for maintenance windows. Auto detecting nodes for exclusion is complex due to the highly variable, case-specific reasons for exclusion (e.g., maintenance, operational dependencies). Making assumptions about these reasons is problematic. Therefore, the optimal approach is to consider all nodes for container platform optimization by default, requiring users/customers to explicitly specify any exclusions.
