Objective: Enhance IBM Turbonomic's capabilities to include automated optimization for GCP's PaaS database services, such as Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, Cloud Spanner, Cloud Bigtable, Firestore, and Memorystore.
Rationale:
Diverse PaaS Database Offerings - GCP provides a range of fully managed PaaS database services catering to various application needs:
Cloud SQL: Supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, and SQL Server with features like automatic backups and scalability.
AlloyDB for PostgreSQL: A PostgreSQL-compatible database offering enhanced performance and availability.
Cloud Spanner: A globally distributed, strongly consistent relational database suitable for large-scale applications
Cloud Bigtable: A NoSQL wide-column database designed for high-throughput and low-latency workloads.
Firestore: A serverless NoSQL document database ideal for mobile and web applications.
Memorystore: Fully managed in-memory data store service for Redis and Memcached, offering sub-millisecond data access.
Growing Adoption: The increasing utilization of these services underscores the need for tools that provide visibility and control over resource consumption and associated costs.
Proposed Features:
Automated Discovery: Identify and catalog active GCP PaaS database instances across the organization.
Performance Monitoring: Track key metrics such as response times, error rates, and resource utilization for each database service.
Optimization Recommendations: Provide actionable insights for scaling, cost reduction, and performance improvements tailored to each database type.
Policy-Driven Automation: Implement automated actions based on predefined policies to manage resources efficiently across different database services.
