This proposal introduces advanced IBM Cloud-specific capabilities within Apptio Cloudability to enable automated rightsizing recommendations for both VPC-based and Classic infrastructure environments.

Key Capabilities:

- Full IBM Cloud Integration: Extends current support to include detailed rightsizing analysis for IBM Cloud VPC and Classic resources.

- Resource Utilization Intelligence: Leverages utilization metrics (CPU, memory, disk, network) to identify over-provisioned or under-utilized virtual machines, bare metals, and container workloads.

- Actionable Recommendations: Provides concrete suggestions to downsize, terminate, or reallocate resources based on performance thresholds and historical trends.

 

Example Use Case:

A customer runs several VSI instances in IBM Cloud Classic for batch jobs and multiple VPC compute instances for web workloads. The rightsizing engine detects that certain Classic VSIs are idle during business hours and recommends scheduling or downsizing them. Meanwhile, VPC instances running below 10% CPU over 30 days are flagged as candidates for right-sizing to smaller flavors.
