Report with the utilization graphs for a group of VMs

I’d like the ability to have Turbo generate a report with the usage graphs for a group of VMs. I must get App Owner signoff for server RightSizing, and this data is demanded frequently to justify Turbo’s recommendations. I’d like to be able to specify the date range and the utilization metrics reported.

Moving to future consideration state while this continues to be worked. Let's set up a time to review our new reporting with AON.

Pranita, I would like a report that yields a PDF with usage graphs for each entity in a group.

I would like to be able to configure the date range for the report / graphs - although a default of 60 days would work well most of the time.

I would like to be able to configure which stats to include in the graph. Typically I will want average and peak CPU and average and peak memory.

We have some outstanding questions - are you looking for a tabular representation or a graphical view for this report? Based on your feedback we can determine the next steps

Upon further conversation with the client - here is some more information

The Client's business process of rightsizing involves emailing App Owners to advise/persuade them to approve your proposed changes. So if you’re rightsizing 10 machines, right now you take screenshots of the low cpu/mem usage graphs of the 10 machines. This is essential persuasive back up detail so that the app owners approve the change. The graph in the Action is not sufficient.

This manual effort is not scalable (imagine 50 VMs!) – and since Turbonomic has the data – IDEALLY the client would like 60 days utilization graphs for cpu/mem avg and peak for a selection of machines (or a Turbonomic Group)

This pdf would be attached to the email – and make the entire rightsizing effort much more efficient.

Turbonomic in the past has recommended that the Client go a different way – but there are good business reasons why this won’t work.

    1. Automate. – the Client is on a journey – and they’re not mature enough yet. Give them time.

    2. Just Trust our recommendations. – see above – we need to prove it first – maybe later they won’t need the level of supporting docs.

    3. Have the users log into Turbonomic to see the data for themselves.- there are a LOT of app groups. This is impractical.

    Technical Specs of the reports

    e..g. 10 machines – select Turbonomic Group.

Multi-resource graph per machine for vCPU (avg and peak). vMEM (avg and peak)

Duration – this should be variable, but 60d is best - because if you go beyond it - you lose granularity.

10 graphs (1 per VM) in the same PDF.

This is an excellent idea. Yes, you can do this for single VMs at a time, but this request is to see it scoped for a custom group (i.e. a group of VMs). I have a use case for this as well, with the utilization numbers included in Action Center CSV downloads.

Aggregated data is not what is needed. When I am trying to persuade an Application Owner to let me RightSize their servers (mostly scale-downs), they want me to show them the utilization data for each server so they can compare that with Turbo's recommendations and see if it seems justified to them.

    Hi,

Unless I missed something, this is already possible natively in the Turbonomic UI. If you create and select a group of VM in the interface, all the widget would give you the graphs and data aggregated on that group. Wouldn't that work?
