Lower the size of the .ova hard drive

When importing the .ova the machine disk is 1,75Tib.

Even if all this space is not used up thanks to thin provisioning, it is still a bad practice to over-provision that much storage.

In our case the thinning of the space is done on the storage bay side. This means on vCenter you still need a Lun that can provide all the 1,75Tib.
This is not practical at all from an operational standpoint.

Moreover in all the storage reports this is still reported as high over-provision and lower the storage score regarding the best practice for best performances.

It would make way more sense to start lower and scale up as needed.

Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to submit your ideas. We truly value our relationship with you and appreciate your willingness to share details about your experience, your recommendations, and ideas.

IBM has evaluated this request and determined that it cannot be implemented at this time or does not align with our current strategy or roadmap.

The virtual machine images are used by a large number of clients who have differing and varying requirements, so the images have to be capable of handling the demands of customers who are just getting started and others who are long time users that have lots of data about their environments stored in the databases. Analysis from the engineering team showed that reducing the size is possible. However, in doing so, it would likely complicate issues for customers in the future when their dbs grow. At which point, they would have to take extra measures to expand the available capacity to accommodate growing dbs.

If you have any additional feedback about this idea or there is something else that should be considered, then reply to this message to continue the conversation. If you want your request to be considered once again, resubmit this idea or create a new idea no sooner than six months time for re-evaluation.
