During the installation of an agent, an option is available (-agent dynamic|fta|both) to choose which type of agent to install, either a Dynamic Agent (DA) or an Fault-Toerant Agent (FTA). A similar option must exist for upgrade (-update) and uninstallation (-uninst) where the agent can be chosen. With the wider adoption of DAs, the FTAs are left and forgotten on the systems and as the passwords for the users that own the FTA services expire, they are no longer updated. As a result, when a DA is upgraded or uninstalled, the process fails as it also tries to stop/start the FTA, which fails due to incorrect password. The passwords must be updated in the Lo On tab of the services properties in order to complete the action successfully.

Hello Marco! The agent was installed with both the DA and FTA. Once the client migrated all workloads from the FTA to DA, they stopped using the FTA. When they decided to upgrade the DA, the upgrade kept failing because the passwords in the Log On tab of the services entries (Token Manager and Workload Scheduler) for the FTA had not been changed since they stopped using the FTA. Note that the span of time between these events was a couple of years. There is no way to specify that the process should only upgrade the DA or uninstall the FTA.
Hello Sajjad, normally when you install a dynamic agent only, no FTA or both, when you uninstall or upgrade it should not try to stop/start the FTA, unless the agent was originally installed as both. I suggest to verify the original installation and possibly to open a case for this.
