Improve Logging, Auditability and Operational Visibility in TWS

We would like to request enhancements to TWS logging and audit capabilities to improve troubleshooting, operational support, and root cause analysis.

Current Challenges

• Merge logs do not show the actual folder being processed, making it difficult to identify where issues are occurring.
• Activities running on Pools and Dynamic Pools do not display the real workstation selected for execution.
• Workstation information is often shown as coded or hexadecimal values instead of readable workstation names.
• Job, event, and process statuses are displayed as numeric codes rather than meaningful status descriptions, requiring manual interpretation.
• Several log entries contain incomplete information, making troubleshooting more complex and time-consuming.
• Log information is frequently missing during Switch Plan execution, creating gaps in operational visibility and making issue investigation difficult.
• Audit logs do not clearly show the source of a request. There is no straightforward way to determine whether an action was performed through DWC, API, OCLI, Composer, Workload Designer, or another interface.

Enhancement needed

We request improvements to logging and audit records so that they provide complete and actionable information without requiring additional interpretation. Specifically:

• Display the actual folder name in merge logs.
• Show the real workstation name for activities executed through Pools and Dynamic Pools.
• Replace coded or hexadecimal workstation identifiers with readable workstation names.
• Display meaningful descriptions for job and event statuses instead of numeric codes.
• Ensure logs contain all relevant details needed for troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Improve logging during Switch Plan execution and ensure no operational information is lost.
• Enhance audit logs to clearly identify the origin of every request, such as DWC, API, OCLI, Composer, Workload Designer, or other interfaces.

Business Impact

The current logging limitations increase the effort required to investigate incidents and perform root cause analysis. Support teams spend significant time correlating data from multiple sources to understand what happened, where it happened, and how the request was initiated. Improving the quality of logs and audit information would significantly reduce troubleshooting time, improve operational visibility, strengthen auditability, and help support teams resolve issues more efficiently.
