Support nameOverride and fullnameOverride for all IBM Workload Automation Helm Chart Components

Business Need

IBM Workload Automation Helm charts currently derive the names of core Kubernetes resources (Server, DWC, Agent, MDM, Backup MDM and related services) from the Helm release name. While this works for many deployments, it limits flexibility in enterprise environments where organisations often need to align Kubernetes resource names with internal naming standards, DNS conventions, CMDB records, service discovery requirements, certificate management practices, and platform governance controls.

Many widely adopted Helm charts support the standard Helm parameters:

nameOverride:
fullnameOverride:

to allow controlled customisation of resource names without modifying chart templates.

Requested Enhancement

Expose and support the standard Helm naming controls (nameOverride and/or fullnameOverride) across all core IBM Workload Automation chart components, including but not limited to:

  • Dynamic Workload Console (DWC)
  • Master Domain Manager (MDM)
  • Backup Master Domain Manager (BMDM)
  • Agents
  • Server components
  • Supporting services and StatefulSets
  • Any other deployable core components delivered through the Helm charts

  • Aligns IBM Workload Automation with common Helm chart design patterns.
  • Reduces the need for customers to modify vendor charts, improving supportability.
  • Enables organisations to meet enterprise naming standards without changing Helm release naming conventions.
  • Simplifies integration with certificate management solutions where resource names, service names, and DNS names may need to follow predefined standards.
  • Supports platform engineering and GitOps practices where release identity and resource identity are managed independently.
  • Improves migration and onboarding experience for customers adopting IBM Workload Automation on Kubernetes.
