As a Planning/Finance Administrator, I would like Planning (the tool) to to find and replace and, where appropriate, consolidate (the new feature) indicated identifier for all plans across time, regardless of whether the plan is open or closed.
The current Change Identifier feature help documentation is available at the link below:

This request would enhance the feature to "consolidate" existing entries in Reference Data tables.
If the Change Identifiers feature of Planning cannot be adjusted to accommodate this request, then please consider adding a new option to perform the consolidation.
For example, the following entries are present in a custom "Project Request" Reference Data table's [Name] field (aka the identifier for the table):

When submitting the Change Identifiers form for the above change, the following error is displayed:

The new identifier is a duplicate of a previously published identifier. Please change the identifier for the previously published identifier, then try again: Name (1) (Excluded in Help File)

In the earlier example, the outcome was primarily driven by name changes for the same project. Consolidation could also collapse unrelated records. For example, an organization's leaders decided to collapse 3 projects into 1 project and want all historical reporting, budgeting, and forecasting to appear under the 1 project. Today, that type of consolidation cannot happen.
